We’re Going On a Bear Hunt

Camp:  South 81- 23.640  west 79- 40.398
Distance:  8.7 nautical miles (16.11km)
Time:  8.5 hours
Weather:   beautiful, great for snow play, horrible for sleds

The first three hours I hit a real soft patch and seven Antarctic turtles passed me.

Then in my head I got stuck in a book I have read my children so many times and played out the story at the park many times.  The normal verse being – “We’re going on a bear hunt. We’re going to catch a big one. What a beautiful day! We’re not scared.”

I switched the words to – “I’m going on a hard snow hunt, it better be a big one, one that makes my sled go fast and I’m not scared.”

Oh no… soft mushy snow….we can’t go under it, we can’t go over it, we’ll have to go through it – splosh, grunt, argh, swear, splosh, swear.

Repeat the above 3.7 million times.

Another odd 16km today gets me closer and my hunt continues.

Song of the Day is by U2 – ‘I still haven’t found what I’m looking for’.  ……..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pb1XXs7e7ac

All smiles

Mark ‘Georgie’ George

PS.  Big hello to Gav, thought a lot about you today, which helped me through the soft snow.

I keep tuning in to your progress Mark hoping that the snow conditions have improved. They will of that I am sure. What a great job you are doing. We fret and worry when the temperature drops 5 degrees. I won’t complain any more!!

    Keep going Bear Hunter.

Georgie. Lennybe ran 6th in the Murray Bridge Cup on Sunday. He is being set for the Strathalbyn Cup on 15 January over 2050 metres – he will win that for sure. I will put 100 on for you win only. Happy Hunting.

    Cheers
