I Just Can’t Get Enough

Camp:  83° 07’ 256” South   79° 16’ 765” West
Distance: 14.4 nautical miles (26.7 km)
Time:  9.5 hours
Weather:  overcast and hard to see where my feet were going this morning and then improved in afternoon
Snow:  continued sign of improvement today

The longer I am out here the easier it is to devour my daily food pack.  On the first couple of days I struggled to try and consume the 5500 – 6000 calories a day – but not any more.

So what does a typical day’s food consist of ……. here is what I am looking at tomorrow.

Breakfast: Porridge for two people and add 100 grams of butter to that, a chocolate milk drink and water with vitamin tablets.

My day pack of snacks are for my breaks which I take every 1.5 hours and I take half an hour for lunch after 5 hours of skiing.  My day pack consists of 100 grams of cheese, 2 sport gels, 1 energy bar, 2 or 3 chocolate bars/lollies and a small bag of peanuts.  If I am flat I also take a bite out of another 50 grams of butter.

During the day I usually drink about 2 litres of water.  As soon as I get into my tent I have 50 grams of salami, and for dinner it is a Country Cuisine Meal for 2 – beef stroganoff tonight … (they make some great meals like spag bol, roast chicken and Moroccan lamb.)  Then have a cup of soup plus about 50-100 grams of butter for dessert.  Wash it down with a  cool tea drink.

Despite eating all that I am still hungry after using so much energy during the day not only on ski’s but reassembling and packing up the tent twice a day.

Hey Georgie, What an adventure, keep at it. Boys made it home from Shatin broke and tired. Dont expect a bowl of butter for desert next time you come for dinner. We can do better than that. May your skis remain slippery and the wind be at your back. Cheers Deano

Keep Sliding Georgie, we’re all loving the updates & wish you well on the Trek. That’s a “huge” amount to consume for a little fella per day – do dairy companies realise that butter appears to be an anti depressant!?! Keep going Georgie – we’re loving your work.

Beef Strog eh! we had lamb cutlets, scallop spuds and spinach (to give me strength like popeye). Jan has been Christmas shopping today – what would you like for Xmas?? We’ll put it under the x’mas tree and guard it until you get back. Tezza wants to go to NZ with us next year, he sent us some pics of his catches, not bad, but we need to go to the Ahuriri again. Take care and go as fast as you can, tonnes of love, Jan & TG

Can relate to the food intake Georgie. Shame is I’m sitting in the office on my butt all day!! Your water is my alcohol and your butter goes on my toast. The calories in turn to my waist!
Keep pounding out the kms as the dial clicks towards ninety degrees.

Today we went to the movies to see Alvin and the Chipmunks 3!! It hasn’t even come out at the cinema yet and so we were so lucky to get in early! It was a great movie!! Some parts were a little scary!

Charlie would like to know how far did you walk today and what is your total distance?
Bonnie “Does your tongue feel funny from eating all the food?”

    HI Georgie,
100 year anniversary of Amundsen’s south pole expedition today – What a source of inspiration, though it seems you don’t need it as you’re picking up the pace and kicking some serious butt:-) Keep it up and am really enjoying the updates. Gen.
