Know When To Fold’em

South 87 25.736  West 81 50.854
Distance: 14.8 nautical miles (ok under circumstances)
Elevation: 2417m
Time: 8.5hrs
Weather: overcast then whiteout then freezing
Snow: even sastrugi, sastrugi, sastrugi
Today seemed to have everything.  The first 5 hours or so I had decent visibility which was much needed due to a large rugged sastrugi.  Then after my lunch break the fog came in and I was in a complete whiteout.   I struggled on for 11/2-2 hours moving very slowly and I could not see for more than 1-2 metres eitherway.  Then it lifted for about 2 hours and I could see a massive fog descending on me.  When it hit I was in a large sastrugi field again.  A whiteout in this sort of territory is almost impossible as you find yourself facing solid walls up to 6 feet in height or the opposite, drops of the same magnitude.
I decided to set up camp early and see if things are better tomorrow however, unfortunately the forecast looks like cloud, fog, snow and wind for the next 3 days.
Time to tough up poodle!

Hi MG, your spot on the map is getting closer! But you are copping crappy weather again. You might do well to ease up for a couple of days, but i’m sure you’ll know how far to stretch it. We are going to Angry’s tonight to see in 1012, say cheers at our time midnight and we’ll have a drink to you and your pending success. Borrack & I got some big flatties on Wednesday; we had ‘em for dinner last night, beautiful. We’ll go get some when you get back, cheers and lots of love, Jan & TG

Chloe, Harry & Mitch are on their way over to our place tonight to see in the new year. We will be enjoying daddy’s special italian meatballs. We are hoping the parents will take time out and take us over the road to the foreshore to watch the fireworks. We are off on a bike ride now so until next time keep up the good work and Happy New Year Mark- love Georgie and Cooper xx
